Dry Shampoo Reviews: Batiste, Not Your Mothers, Herbal Essences, and Dove

Hey guys! I haven't posted in the last few weeks because I've been quite busy after getting back from Mexico! I debated on a few new products to review for this week and decided to do some dry shampoo reviews. This week I will be reviewing Batiste, Not Your Mothers, Herbal Essences, and Dove dry shampoo. I personally use dry shampoo several times a week to save me time in the morning for the days that I don't shower. If you're a nurse or a nursing student (or anyone), most likely you'll have some crazy hours and probably won't want to wake up at 5 AM to shower and get ready for the day. Dry shampoo can honestly be a life saver. If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should! Some people don't know how to use it, so I am debating on doing a YouTube tutorial on how to really get the max results out of your dry shampoo. Let me know if that's something that'd you guys would be interesting in the comments below!

Batiste

Price

Generally I find this product for about $6 for 6.73 fl. oz. at Walmart or TJ Maxx. It's on the more expensive side of dry shampoo's but you definitely pay for better quality.

How I applied it

I applied the product along the root area of my head over various sections; making sure I covered my entire head. You definitely need to apply a more generous amount of this product compared to other dry shampoos. It has a very powdery and is more "fine" that other dry shampoos.

Smell

I bought this dry shampoo in Tropical Coconut and Exotic and I absolutely love it! I know they have many scents so you can choose which one is best for you. I love coconut. The scent is fresh, light, and not overwhelming. It lasts all day and covers up any sort of odor that you may have in your unwashed hair. YUM!!
*I've also tried this product in the Original scent and that also smelled great!

Overall thoughts & How Well The Product Worked

I love this product and it is definitely worth buying. It absorbs excess oil and can make your hair look renewed. It is more powdery than other brands and doesn't make your hair stiff. My hair was able to move freely, which I really like. My hair kept oil free for the entire duration until I showered next. The scent is refreshing and unique! My only complaint is that I wish the product was a little cheaper! I go through it so fast and it's not really drugstore prices. I guess you pay for better quality!

Likes

Smell, powdery and light, packaging, keeps hair fresh, renews hair, and many scents to choose from

Dislikes

Slightly expensive, and you have to use a generous amount of the product to get max results

Buy/use again?

Yes! I love this product and I will continue to buy it. It's my #1 choice for dry shampoo!

Not Your Mothers- Clean Freak

Price

$4.74 for 7 oz. at Walmart. This was the first dry shampoo I ever tried and I didn't really know how to use dry shampoo at that point, so this product lasted me a long time! I would estimate with 2-3 uses a week it would probably last you about a month (depending on how much you use).

How I applied it

I applied the product along the root area of my head over various sections; making sure I covered my entire head. This product is similar to Batiste (more powdery), so you may have to apply more generously than other dry shampoos.

Smell

The one thing that I didn't like about this product was the smell.... YUCK! I can't really describe it other than it being more "earthy"... I really didn't enjoy the smell and wish that they would reformulate the scent because otherwise this product was great!

Overall thoughts & How Well The Product Worked

This product worked really well. It didn't leave my hair starchy and hard to move. I felt like the formula wasn't as light as Batiste but it was more similar to Batiste. It kept my hair looking renewed all day. My only complaint is the smell.

Likes

Works well, keeps hair pliable, and absorbs oil easily

Dislikes

The scent

Buy/use again?

I won't buy this dry shampoo again purely because I don't like the smell, other than that I think it works great!

*Unfortunately I don't have a picture of this product!

Herbal Essences- Color Me Happy

Price

$3.29 for 4.9 oz on Jet.com (free shipping!). This is one of the cheaper dry shampoos that I've used. You can pretty much buy it anywhere, so that's definitely a plus! It lasts about the same as the other dry shampoos (2-3 times a week, for about a month).

How I applied it

I applied the product along the root area of my head over various sections; making sure I covered my entire head. This product is more "starchy" and makes your hair stiffer than the powdery Batiste so you it's slightly harder to rub into your hair.

PS- "starchy"/stiff isn't bad, sometimes it's nice to give your hair texture and volume when your hair gets really flat!

Smell

I LOVE THE SMELL!! I originally bought this dry shampoo after purchasing Herbal Essenses Color Me Happy Cleansing Conditioner because I loved the smell so much. (You can read my Herbal Essences Cleansing Conditioner review here). The scent is supposed to be luscious rose. If you like Herbal Essences Color Me Happy line you would love this!

Overall thoughts & How Well The Product Worked

First off, I'd just like to state that you don't really need to color your hair to use this product. Using any dry shampoo shouldn't affect color treated hair.
I thought that this product worked well! It is a stiffer more starchy product so it makes my hair have some added consistency, which is nice when I am looking for that. It absorbs oil nicely and keeps your hair smelling great all day long!

Likes

Cheap, smells amazing, adds volume, adds texture/consistency, absorbs oils, and keeps hair refreshed all day

Dislikes

Sometimes I am looking for more powdery and less starchy/stiff

Buy/use again?

I will definitely buy this dry shampoo again. I love the scent and the price is pretty hard to beat!

Dove- Hair Therapy

Price

$3.94 for 5 oz. This product is pretty comparable with Herbal Essences in price and volume.

It is VERY similar to Herbal Essences.

PS- "starchy"/stiff isn't bad, sometimes it's nice to give your hair texture and volume when your hair gets really flat!

Smell

This product smells soo good! It is light, powdery, and clean smelling. I love "powdery" smelling things (ha ha). It smells like the typical shampoo or conditioner. Unlike the other products I reviewed it has a more conservative smell (the other ones smell like perfumes). A+ in the smell department.

Overall thoughts & How Well The Product Worked

This product worked great! It's very similar to the Herbal Essences dry shampoo. It has that starchy stiffness to it that adds volume and texture. It absorbs oils nicely and the smell covers up any unpleasant odors. This product lasts ALL DAY!! I will be showering after using it and notice that it's almost water resistant (it comes out, no worries, just a nice aspect for sweating and such).

Likes

Cheap, smells awesome, absorbs oils, adds volume and texture, long lasting

Dislikes

Sometimes I am looking for more powdery and less starchy/stiff

Buy/use again?

I will most likely buy this dry shampoo again! I think that the overall formula is slightly better than Herbal Essences but I like Herbal Essences pretty much the same. It'll defiantly be a tie between the two of them.

Marilyn & Daddy-O by LUSH Review

This week I will be reviewing two products from LUSH Cosmetics. LUSH is a mostly natural, handmade, organic cosmetic store. If you've ever been to one of their stores you know they are addicting! They create anything from henna hair dye to perfume. It's pretty cool, the only downfall is that most of their products are pretty expensive!

Nursing School 101: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

Hey guys! This week I won’t be doing a product review. I am going to write about my experience with nursing school. I hope that this blog helps anyone who is going, looking, or dreaming about going through nursing school!   Before I started nursing school I was really curious about it and searched the internet for videos and blogs. I’ve noticed that a lot of nurses and nursing stories online (and in real life) are very negative. I found this to be really depressing and I questi oned if I did the right thing by switching my major. I decided that I was going to have a positive mindset and enjoy the process. I hope that this blog leaves you with a better understanding and a positive mindset before you head off to school!
